A deep low is forecast east of Iceland on Monday afternoon. By Monday evening, north and northwest gales or strong gales (mean wind 15-23 m/s) are widely expected, but somewhat lighter wind in the westernmost part of the country. With the cold northerly wind, considerable precipitation is expected in North- and East-Iceland. Mostly rain or sleet near sea level, but snow inland. There in uncertainty in the height of the snow level, and varying height is expected during the period of the warning, there is a chance of snow almost down to sea level for a period.Prolonged northerly winds can be expected and many forecasts show that the weather will not improve until Friday. If the forecast comes true, it will be a very unusual weather event for this time of year, both in terms of wind strength and low temperatures with precipitation.Loose objects outside can be blown away, people are advised to secure their neighborhood. Travelling can be hazardous, especially for vehicles sensitive to wind. Snow cover can be expected on roads in North- and East-Iceland, especially on mountain roads. Live stock may need adequate shelter. People planning outdoor activities and hikes are advised to review their plans and monitor weather forecasts and warnings. For further information see: https://en.vedur.is/alerts
