Rip currents can sweep even the bestswimmers away from shore into deeper water.Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due todangerous surf conditions.Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax andfloat. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in adirection following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face theshore and call or wave for help.

Tropical Storm Warning issued September 25 at 11:01AM EDT by NWS Charleston SCA Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm-force winds areexpected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours* LOCATIONS AFFECTED- Hilton Head Island- Beaufort- Bluffton* WIND- LATEST LOCAL FORECAST: Tropical storm force winds remainpossible- Peak Wind Forecast: 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph- THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY THAT INCLUDES TYPICAL FORECASTUNCERTAINTY IN TRACK, SIZE AND INTENSITY: Potential for wind 39to 57 mph- The wind threat has remained nearly steady from theprevious assessment.- PLAN: Plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical stormforce.- PREPARE: Efforts to protect property should now beunderway. Prepare for limited wind damage.- ACT: Act now to complete preparations before the windbecomes hazardous.- POTENTIAL IMPACTS: Limited- Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchoredmobile homes. Evacuations and rescuesare possible.- PREPARE: Consider protective actions if you are in an areavulnerable to flooding.- ACT: Heed any flood watches and warnings. Failure to takeaction may result in serious injury or loss of life.- POTENTIAL IMPACTS: Significant- Moderate rainfall flooding could prompt some rescues.- Rivers and tributaries could quickly become swollen withswifter currents and overspill their banks in a few places,especially in normally vulnerable spots. If a tornadowarning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.- POTENTIAL IMPACTS: Extensive- Numerous tornadoes can greatly hinder the execution ofemergency plans.- Tornadoes could produce pockets of extensive destruction,power loss, and communications failures.
