Flood Watch issued May 20 at 3:36PM AKDT until May 24 at 12:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is possible.* WHERE...The Yukon River from Mountain Village to the Yukon DeltaCoast.* WHEN...Through Friday morning.* IMPACTS...Ice jams may result in flooding from Mountain Village tothe Yukon Delta Coast. Low lying areas near Mountain Village couldflood today through Tuesday. Low Lying areas downstream nearEmmonak, Alakanuk, Nunam Iqua and Kotlik have potential to floodlate Tuesday night through Friday. If an ice jam forms, watercould rise rapidly.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- The Yukon River broke up to past Mountain Village on SundayMay 19. The breakup front will likely reach Emmonak andAlakanuk between Tuesday night and Friday, based on historictrends. There is potential for flooding in Emmonak, Alakanuk,Nunam Iqua and Kotlik as breakup progresses. Though this yearhas mostly been a thermal breakup for the Yukon River, an icejam did form and release May 19 downstream of Pilot Stationwhich led to flooding. This run of ice could lead to highwater downstream. In addition, satellite imagery depictsminimal degradation of shorefast ice along the Yukon DeltaCoast.
