Flood Warning issued May 30 at 11:31AM CDT until May 31 at 12:00PM CDT by NWS Hastings NE* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.* WHERE...A portion of central Nebraska, including the followingcounties, Howard and Sherman.* WHEN...Until noon CDT Friday.* IMPACTS...Doppler radar indicated that heavy rain from earlierThursday morning had long since moved out of the area. However,widespread areal flooding continues within the Warning area as aresult of 2 to 5 inches that earlier fell. Law enforcement andemergency management reported that numerous rural roads have beenclosed, and reports and photos from the public and spottersconfirm that several small creeks remain flooded. This includes anautomated gauge along the Turkey Creek north of Dannebrog, whichhas rapidly risen to 17.5 feet as of 1045 AM CDT, slightly abovethe 17.0 foot flood stage. Although spotty showers andthunderstorms could move back into the area into early thisafternoon, any threat for potentially concentrated heavy rainshould hold off until late this afternoon or this evening, if iteven occurs again in the Warning area at all during the next 24hours. However, even if additional rain is minimal, it will takemany hours for creeks and streams to recedes back into theirbanks, and this is why this Flood Warning has been issued outthrough Friday morning.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 1130 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gaugesindicated heavy rain due to earlier thunderstorms. Floodingis ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area.Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen.- This includes the following streams and drainages...Oak Creek, Munson Creek, Auger Creek, Moffet Creek, CadyCreek, Dry Creek, Cedar Creek, Lake Creek, Turkey Creek, CowCreek, Davis Creek, Deer Creek, Prairie Slough, Spring Creek,Big Slough and Rock Creek.- Some locations that could experience flooding include...St. Paul, Dannebrog, Elba, Ashton, Howard City, Farwell,Cotesfield, Boelus and Sherman Reservoir Dam.- http://www.weather.gov/safety/floodTurn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
