Flood Watch issued July 2 at 6:48PM CDT until July 3 at 10:00AM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of east central Iowa, including the following counties, Benton, Jones and Linn. * WHEN...Through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Thunderstorms will continue into tonight and will be capable of producing heavy rainfall. Storms may repeat over the same areas and result in excessive rainfall. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Special Weather Statement issued July 2 at 8:29PM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL At 828 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Urbana to Newhall. Movement was east at 40 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and minor flooding. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Strong winds could break small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Slowing or redirecting of traffic due to ponding or flowing water. Closure of waterfront access due to flooding. Locations impacted include... Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Mount Vernon, Robins, Center Point, Lisbon, Fairfax, Atkins, Urbana, Central City, Springville, Palo, Shellsburg, Walker, Alburnett, Coggon, Bertram, Prairieburg, and Toddville. This includes Interstate 380 between mile markers 17 and 45. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM CDT for northeastern and east central Iowa.
