In north central Iowa, Butler, Franklin, Humboldt and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Black Hawk and Bremer. In northwest Iowa, Pocahontas. In west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie and Sac. * WHEN...Through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Heavy rain last night and this morning have led to saturated soils, with ongoing flooding in some areas. With scattered rain/storms expected today and additional heavy rain tonight, new areas may begin to flood and ongoing flooding may be exacerbated. Flood Warning issued July 3 at 5:13AM CDT until July 3 at 5:15PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA * WHAT...Low lying, urban area, and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central Iowa, including the following counties, Dallas, Jasper and Polk. * WHEN...Until 515 PM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. Fourmile Creek is also above flood stage, including at NE 86th Avenue in Ankeny as of 5 am. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 511 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 4 and 9 inches of rain have fallen with isolated amounts nearing 10 inches. - This flood warning replaces the flash flood warning for Polk and Jasper Counties. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Newton, Altoona, Waukee, Pleasant Hill, Grimes, Windsor Heights, Carlisle, Bondurant, Polk City, Saylorville, Mitchellville, Colfax, Monroe and Prairie City. Fourmile Creek at Des Moines Easton Blvd affecting Polk County. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...The Fourmile Creek at Des Moines Easton Blvd, or from below Interstate 80 to the Des Moines River. * WHEN...Until late this evening. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, Water affects businesses and apartments east of E 33rd St near E Douglas Ave...E Euclid Ave and Hubbell Ave. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:45 AM CDT Friday the stage was 12.2 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of around 15.5 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late this afternoon. - Flood stage is 12.5 feet. For the latest stream observations and forecasts refer to weather.gov/desmoines/water. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
