Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 4:02PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 402 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Donaldsonville, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Gonzales, Donaldsonville, Napoleonville, Sorrento, Supreme, Paincourtville, Convent, Labadieville, Belle Rose, and North Vacherie. This includes Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 177 and 183. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

St. James Parish in southeastern Louisiana... West Central St. John The Baptist Parish in southeastern Louisiana... * WHEN...Until 700 PM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 358 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Gonzales, Donaldsonville, Gramercy, Lutcher, Sorrento, Convent, Geismar, North Vacherie, Wallace and South Vacherie. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
