Special Weather Statement issued June 30 at 10:33PM CDT by NWS New Orleans LA At 1032 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas along a line extending from 18 miles northeast of Boothville to 19 miles east of Venice. Movement was southwest at 25 mph. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Port Sulphur, Boothville-venice, Boothville, Empire, Buras, Buras-triumph, Venice, and Boothville Asos. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Coastal Waters from Boothville LA to Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River out 20 nm... Coastal waters from Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River to Port Fourchon Louisiana from 20 to 60 NM... Coastal waters from the Southwest Pass of the Mississippi River to Port Fourchon Louisiana out 20 NM... At 1034 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 10 nm west of Breton Sound to near Boothville to Pilottown, moving west at 20 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts to 40 knots. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... Boothville, Empire, Grand Isle, Pilottown, Barataria Bay, Southwest Pass Of the Mississippi River, Breton Sound, Venice, and Port Sulphur. Strong winds will be dangerous for boaters or anyone near the water. Make sure all on board are wearing life jackets. Seek shelter or move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes.

For the second Heat Advisory, from 10 AM to 6 PM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
