Residents in these areas should monitor this situation very closely and ensure your NOAA weather radios are set to alert mode. Severe weather warnings for imminent damaging storms may become necessary. Here are some safety rules to keep in mind when severe weather is expected or is occurring. If a warning is issued, seek shelter indoors immediately. Heat Advisory issued June 12 at 8:19AM EDT until June 12 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC * WHAT...Heat index values around 105 expected. * WHERE...DC and portions of central, north central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and central, northern, and northwest Virginia. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Chesapeake Bay north of Pooles Island MD... Chester River to Queenstown MD... Choptank River to Cambridge MD and the Little Choptank River... Eastern Bay... At 426 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. This thunderstorm was located near Fort Washington, moving east at 30 knots. Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Intense lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.
