Special Weather Statement issued July 8 at 7:48PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC At 747 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 miles east of Rougemont to near Prospect Hill to 6 miles northwest of McLeansville. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham, Chapel Hill, Burlington, Henderson, Graham, Oxford, Roxboro, and Hillsborough. This includes the following highways... Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 163 and 215. Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 134 and 162, and between Mile Markers 259 and 280. the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 4 and 17. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
