For the second Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107 expected. * WHERE...Coastal Onslow, Duplin, East Carteret, Inland Onslow, Jones, Northern Craven, Pamlico, Southern Craven, and West Carteret Counties. * WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Special Weather Statement issued July 8 at 5:58PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC At 557 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Ernul, or 11 miles north of New Bern, moving southeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... New Bern, James City, Askins, Cayton, Olympia, Grantsboro, Ernul, Fairfield Harbour, Coastal Carolina Regional Airport, Alliance, and Bridgeton. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
