Extreme Heat Warning issued July 4 at 4:54AM EDT until July 4 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 expected. * WHERE...Portions of north central North Carolina and central and south central Virginia. * WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Lynchburg... Buena Vista... Bedford... Altavista... Amherst... Appomattox... and Hurt. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM EDT for central, south central, southwestern and west central Virginia.
