Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 7:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA At 700 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Williamsburg, or 8 miles northeast of Rupert, moving east at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Rupert... Quinwood... Renick... Falling Spring... Beartown State Park... Trout... and Rorer. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Flood Advisory issued July 5 at 5:47PM EDT until July 5 at 9:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast West Virginia, including the following county, Greenbrier. * WHEN...Until 900 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 547 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Panther Camp Creek, McMillion Creek, South Fork Big Clear Creek, Sam Creek, North Fork Cherry River, Elijah Branch, Laurel Creek, Little Laurel Creek, Beech Run, Robbins Run, Big Clear Creek, Peaser Branch, Improvement Branch, Fitzwater Branch and Cold Knob Fork. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
